Measures Taken to Construct SkyTeam Hub at Beijing Airport
Mar. 17, 2009
Since joining the SkyTeam alliance in 2007, China Southern Airlines has been taking various initiatives and measures to strength its cooperation with other SkyTeam member carriers in order to transform the Terminal 2 (T2) of Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) into a SkyTeam hub with seamless services.
While in the process of transferring to BCIA's T2, China Southern Airlines had been communicating and cooperating with other SkyTeam members in various fields to enhance collaboration. In particular, China Southern Airlines, representing the SkyTeam, coordinated and communicated with the airport operator on several occasions in terms of resource allocation in the terminal, laying the foundation for efficient operations, which in turn resulted in service excellence to SkyTeam passengers.
On May 9, 2009, China Southern Airlines took over the "SkyTeam Co-Location Project" at BCIA, which aimed at building an operational hub for the airline alliance in T2. Since transferring to T2, all SkyTeam member carriers have been operating in the same terminal which doubtlessly offers an excellent platform for hub construction.
After the relocation to T2, China Southern Airlines has set up a special check-in area for elite and premium passengers, and promoted the "Same-Floor Transfer" and "Through Check-in" services and set up a designated domestic-international transfer area for passenger convenience. Meanwhile, China Southern Airlines has conducted various activities such as its SkyTeam Ambassador program and in-house training to strengthen the image and awareness of SkyTeam brand to all member carriers' employees.
One China Southern Airlines official in charge of SkyTeam affairs at BCIA, all member airlines here have reached agreement on the alliance's work objectives. Among them, an international lounge shared by SkyTeam members is high on the agenda. If everything goes according to plan, the lounge will be the second SkyTeam common lounge in the world after Heathrow airport in London. Meanwhile, all SkyTeam member carriers will take measures such as handing out SkyTeam leaflets to promote the alliance's brand awareness and recognition.
Li Jun, Deputy General Manager of China Southern Airlines Beijing Branch Company, addressed during an interview that the airline will strengthen the collaboration on network connections with other SkyTeam airlines members in Beijing and optimize relevant service processes to attract more SkyTeam passengers. "We will surely witness and expect great development and progress of the SkyTeam at BCIA and China Southern Airlines will, by all means, dedicate more resources to attract passengers and improve the quality of services delivered," he added.
