China Eastern Airlines (MU) retired its Airbus A300 fleet officially, with an A300-600R aircraft numbered B-2330 taking off from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) at 6:40 p.m. and landing at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) at 8:29 p.m. on May 31, marking the end of 25 years' service for the carrier. As one of the oldest planes in the history of China civil aviation, the retirement of A300 fleet heralded the end of the era.
The last four A300 aircraft -- B-2318, B-2325, B-2326 and B-2330 -- joined the fleet of China Eastern between 1993 and 1996. Flight MU5319/20 was the last A300 round-trip flight between Shenzhen and Shanghai, with MU5317/18 the last A300 flight between Guangzhou and Shanghai.
China Eastern introduced its first A300 in 1989. Since then, the aircraft has been an important element in this airline's service network. With the upgrade of its fleet, the airline has gradually retired the ageing A300 aircraft from service.
