China will have 260 civil airport by 2020, the end of the thirteenth five-year plan, said Wang Changyi, Director General of Department of Planning and Development, CAAC at China Civil Aviation Development Forum 2015 on June 25.
China's aviation sector has grown rapidly in recent years, driven by demand from the country's increasingly wealthy middle class. The aviation watchdog pledged to improve airport complexity and enhance construction of new airports, as well as develop more cargo hubs and international gateway airports.
Meanwhile, new regional airports will be built in the low-airport-density but high-demand regions. It is estimated that more than 20 large aviation hubs will be constructed by 2020.
