Mar. 14, 2008
It's been two weeks since the official opening of the newest terminal at Beijing Capital International Airport. Six airlines are already operating in Terminal 3, with another 19 set to move in by the end of the month.
The second batch of 19 domestic and international airlines will move into Terminal 3 on March 26. These will include Air China, Shanghai Airline, Scandinavian Airlines and Austrian Airlines. All their accompanying services will move in as well.
Zhang Yong, Vice Manager of Air China Ground Services Center said, "We will arrange for staff including directors to monitor the whole moving-in process. A total of over 80 airplanes will shift from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3."
In addition, more than 1700 special type vehicles such as tractors and trailers will also make the move to the new terminal.
To ensure smooth check-in and boarding in Terminal 3, Air China is reminding passengers that check-in services will stop 45 minutes before domestic flight departures, and 60 minutes before international flight departures. All flights will stop boarding 10 minutes before take-off.
Air China will also launch a compulsory labelling system on check-in luggage.
Zhang Chunzhi, Spokesman of Air China said, "Passengers need to write their names on check-in luggage. If we find any problems during security inspection and transport, or if there is any damage to the luggage, we can notify passengers immediately."
Passengers can also enjoy automatic check-in services, using machines in Terminal 3. The airport will also provide guiding and ferry services for those who've lost their way.
In addition, a high speed train connecting Terminal 3 to the city's Donzhimen station is being constructed. Officials say all transportation routes will be completed by June this year.
