Credit Card Issuers Back Away From Full Refunds for Victims of Oasis Debacle
May 15, 2008
Most credit card issuers are helping customers caught holding useless airline tickets issued by Oasis Hong Kong Airlines with credit-back deals and refunds.
But, according to the Consumer Council on May 14, those who have already paid their balances through credit cards issued by the Bank of East Asia, Citibank, CITIC Ka Wah Bank, Public Bank (Hong Kong) and Shanghai Commercial Bank will not be offered any refund or credit-back deals.
Fifteen other banks and credit card issuing companies will be offering the equivalent of the cost of the ticket to future purchases, while American Express will only do so with sufficient documentation.
The Development Bank of Singapore and the Industrial and Commerce Bank of China will consider refunds for customers who have already settled their bills on a case-by-case basis.
The council is calling on card issuers to handle charge-back requests despite refund deadlines.
