Video: Chinese Airlines Raise Fuel Levy
May 28, 2008
China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines say they will raise fuel surcharges on international routes by 33 percent effective June 1. This is to offset pressure of oil price increases.
The levy will increase from 600 yuan to 800 yuan per passenger, flying between the Chinese mainland and Europe, the United States, Africa and Middle East. This is the second increase since January 1, when domestic airlines raised the surcharges by 30 percent.
Higher fuel prices have also caused foreign carriers, including Air Canada, British Airways and Lufthansa to increase their fuel surcharge.
