China: Airlines to Raise Fuel Surcharge Up to 50%
Jun. 30, 2008
Chinese airlines have received permission to raise their domestic jet fuel surcharge by as much as 50 percent from July 1 to offset the impact of high oil prices, an aviation industry website said on June 30, citing regulators.
The domestic jet fuel surcharge will rise to 80 yuan (US$11.67) from 60 yuan for flights of 800 kilometres or less, and to 150 yuan from 100 yuan for longer distances.
China's big airlines, which include Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, had sought the increase from Chinese authorities as oil prices surge to record highs and pressure their profitability.
