Beijing Airport Promises Safe, Comfortable Environment for Olympic Visitors
Jul. 30, 2008
Thousands of people are coming for the Olympics and, for most, Beijing's Capital International Airport (BCIA) will be their first taste of the city. The airport has laid a solid foundation for the 2008 Summer Games, promising a safe, comfortable environment with world-class facilities.
By the noon of July 29, over 22,000 reporters have arrived in Beijing.
Olympic volunteers greet them with cheerful smiles and offer various handbooks for either athletes, reporters, or sponsors.
This is the T3-D terminal. It's for charter flights carrying Olympic and Paralympic delegations. This allows them to leave the airport directly from the apron after finishing quarantine, immigration, customs and accreditation procedures.
With a passport and Olympic registration card, it takes only 45 seconds to pass the immigration check. So for a flight of about 300 people, it takes no more than 10 minutes for all of them to pass.
For Olympic Family Members taking regular commercial flights, the airport optimized services for them, making the procedure as short as possible.
Chen Yanxi, Deputy Director of Exit & Entry Frontier Inspection said, "We not only increased personnel for members of the Olympic family, but also the number of inspection officers and counters for ordinary passengers. I believe, this will bring convenience for both groups, the delegations and the general public."
The largest airport terminal in the world, T3 went into use earlier this year. The airport has been ranked as one of the leading ones in Asia, with an annual design passenger capacity of 78 million.
